Planning in Library management


Planning is any organization is the first and most basic function of the management. Before staring functioning of a work, its planning is the backbone of its efficient success. Planning is deciding in advance the objectives of the organizations and the means of attaining them. Planning is to determine what should be done? Planning is a kind of future picture and entails the smooth running the organization. Planning is helpful for to get desired goals are achieved with maximum possible efficiency and effectiveness.

Like other organizations, the planning also is applied in case of libraries on the same pattern. In the libraries, the librarian and the library managers should have a clear vision about what activities of the libraries should be performed. Systematic gradual approach is helpful instead of all activities starting simultaneously.

A lake of planning in libraries results in waste and efficiency. Planning enables the librarian for running the job effectively and contribute towards achieving maximum output in the for of library services. Libraries may achieve following advantages by efficient planning:

Concentration of objectives

Provides a sense of direction
Integrates sense of direction.
Reduces uncertainty
Guidance decision making.
Provides a basis for orientation
